About us

A magazine born of a love of Riesling.

Home of Riesling is a small, independent online magazine. It is run by an editorial team based in [Munich – please confirm] who consider Riesling the most exciting white grape in the world and want to write about it – with no publisher and no retailer behind them.

How we work

No scores of our own

Others already hand out plenty of scores – and often very competently. When Falstaff, Vinous, Wine Advocate, Jancis Robinson, Mosel Fine Wines or other experts have rated a wine, we quote them, with source, vintage and link. We reproduce other people's tasting notes only as short quotations, clearly marked as such.

Our contribution: an honest report

What we add is subjective, and meant to be: a short report on how a wine performs in the glass and at the table, where it comes from and who makes it. Where we have tasted a wine ourselves, it is marked “From the editors”. Where we have not, we summarise what the critics say – and say so.

Value matters

The more expensive a bottle, the more closely we look. A Großes Gewächs (GG – the VDP's dry wine from a Grand Cru site) at €60 has to deliver more than an Ortswein (village wine) at €20 – and sometimes the Ortswein is the better choice. We give prices as approximate figures, with a source.

No affiliate links: our links to retailers and sources are simple references. We earn nothing from any purchase.

Independent

We are glad to receive sample bottles, but they do not buy a mention. We take no money for placements, and every wine an estate has provided to us is labelled accordingly in the piece. This is what the note looks like:

For wineries

We are interested in the people behind the bottles. How a profile comes about, what happens to sample bottles and the rules we have set ourselves are explained on a separate page.
