Profile
Family-owned for more than 200 years, the Bernkastel estate has been run since 1988 by Ernst ‘Erni’ Loosen, one of the best-known international ambassadors for German Riesling. His capital is old, partly ungrafted vines in ten Große Lagen of the Middle Mosel, including Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Ürziger Würzgarten, Erdener Treppchen and the tiny Erdener Prälat. The range extends from Gutswein through dry Große Gewächse to Auslesen; by his own account, Loosen is once again placing more emphasis on long cask ageing, releases the GG Réserve wines late (currently the 2019 vintage) and also keeps older Auslese vintages on sale.
