The Künstler estate in Hochheim, on the eastern edge of the Rheingau, is one of the leading names for powerful, dry Rieslings. Gunter Künstler has expanded the business considerably and today farms not only Hochheim sites such as Hölle, Kirchenstück, Domdechaney and Stielweg but also parcels in Rüdesheim and in the Erbacher Marcobrunn. Hochheim’s heavy loess-loam and clay soils produce dense, long-lived wines; they are aged in stainless steel and large wood, using basket presses and bâtonnage and without fining.
