A finely nuanced nose of citrus, white peach and green apple, with herbs and linden blossom. The palate is firm and clearly structured, juicy, with ripe, gripping acidity and a cool, stony shell-limestone note. With 1.7 g/l residual sugar and 6.9 g/l acidity it is fermented dry, but not austere.

Value for money

An Erste Lage from the Main loop for around €15 with 91+ Falstaff points – exceptionally fairly calculated.

Goes well with

Pan-fried pike-perch, grilled chicken with lemon, asparagus, a Franconian cold platter (Brotzeit) with mild cheese.

The estate

Horst Sauer set up on his own with his wife in 1977, after his father had still delivered the grapes to the cooperative; today his daughter Sandra Sauer is in charge of the cellar. The estate on the Volkach loop of the Main farms a good 20 hectares in around 125 parcels, above all in the Erste Lage Escherndorfer Lump and the Große Lage Am Lumpen 1655, on Muschelkalk, Lettenkeuper and loess loam.
