Fragrant, with fresh citrus fruit, yellow apple, linden blossom and a spicy note of fennel fronds and caraway. The palate is taut and lean, the acidity flows in a lively way, and a hint of residual sweetness rounds it off.

Value for money

At €13.90 from the estate this is the upper end of this list, but still a fair price for an introduction to an estate of this standing.

Goes well with

Veal escalope with lemon, goat's cheese or vegetable tempura.

The estate

This family estate in Bockenau has been in family hands for more than 200 years; under Tim Fröhlich it has become one of the leading names for Riesling on the Nahe. The vines grow exclusively on steep, rocky sites – slate, quartzite and volcanic rock – spread across six Große Lagen, including the two monopoles Felseneck and Stromberg in Bockenau.
