A herbal, citrus-fresh nose with quince, apricot and apple. The palate is juicy and barely perceptibly sweet – with 15.9 g/l residual sugar and 8.1 g/l acidity, the wine seems almost dry, lively and clear, with good tension on the finish.
Value for money
Under €12 for a wine whose previous vintage James Suckling awarded 92 points – hardly any Rheingau Riesling offers more in this price bracket.
Goes well with
Vitello tonnato, grilled poultry, summer rolls with herbs, mildly spicy Thai cooking.
The estate
The Spreitzer family traces its winegrowing tradition back to 1641; since 1997 the brothers Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer have run the estate in Oestrich. Its roughly 35 hectares are planted with 95% Riesling and 5% Spätburgunder, in sites including Lenchen, Doosberg, Rosengarten and the Hallgartener Hendelberg.
