Profile
The Spreitzer family traces its winegrowing tradition back to 1641; since 1997 the brothers Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer have run the estate in Oestrich. Its roughly 35 hectares are planted with 95% Riesling and 5% Spätburgunder, in sites including Lenchen, Doosberg, Rosengarten and the Hallgartener Hendelberg. The brothers seek a balance between lightness and concentration – delicate, elegant wines with depth and length; their guiding principle is “Das Leichte ist immer das Schwerste” (our translation: “The light touch is always the hardest”). The estate relies on close-to-nature viticulture, reduced yields and mostly selective hand-picking, ages some wines in wooden casks up to 60 years old and uses geothermal and solar power instead of fossil fuels.
