Ripe apricot and yellow peach on the nose, with pear, greengage, a touch of spice and a little smoke. The palate is juicy and carried by a salty freshness; the residual sugar of just over 17 g/l stays in the background, and the finish seems almost dry. Light, yet with noticeable drive.

Value for money

For around €12.50 you get the signature of one of the most renowned Saar estates – exceptionally good value for money.

Goes well with

Asparagus or tomato salad, grilled trout, fresh goat's cheese with herbs, peaches.

The estate

The roots of this Saarburg estate go back to 1742; a defining figure was the royal Prussian forestry official (Forstmeister) Ferdinand Geltz, co-founder of the Großer Ring, from which the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer emerged. After the buildings were destroyed in 1944, Marianne and Fritz Zilliken continued the business from 1947 under its present name and in 1950 moved into the family seat in the Heckingstraße.
