Profile
Set at the foot of a single, unbroken south-facing slope on the Ruwer, the estate served for almost a thousand years as an outlying estate of the Benedictine abbey of St. Maximin in Trier. After secularisation it was auctioned in 1811 and in 1881 passed to the industrialist Carl Ferdinand von Stumm-Halberg, and through his daughter to the von Schubert family, who now run it in the sixth generation. The hill is divided into three monopole sites: the extremely steep Abtsberg, the large Herrenberg and the small, cool Bruderberg. Stylistically, the range extends from taut, dry Große Gewächse to delicate Kabinett and Auslese wines; with its Schlosskeller-Reserve the estate releases mature vintages from its own cellar.
