The Kühn family has been growing vines in the middle Rheingau for more than 230 years; today Peter Bernhard Kühn is in charge of the estate that his father Peter Jakob Kühn made one of the region’s most distinctive names. The estate has been Demeter-certified since 2004; the grapes are picked by hand, fermented spontaneously and aged for a long time in large wooden casks without fining agents. The Große Lagen around Oestrich and Hallgarten, including Doosberg, Sankt Nikolaus and Lenchen, lie on gravel terraces, quartzite-influenced loess loam and phyllite slate. The wines are regarded as individual, saline and uncompromisingly dry.
