The estate belongs to the Würzburg foundation Bürgerspital zum Heiligen Geist, founded in 1316 by Johannes and Mergardis von Steren; the first vineyards were added in 1334, and the proceeds still go towards the foundation’s care for the elderly today. With holdings in the Würzburger Stein, Stein-Harfe, Innere Leiste, Abtsleite and Pfaffenberg, it is one of the largest estates in Germany. Under Robert Haller a style developed that aims at minerality and purist finesse; since autumn 2025 his long-standing deputy Karl Brand has run the estate. Besides Silvaner, Riesling is the most important variety.
